The inaugural gala celebrating the faculty of nursing at Medicine Hat College will take place Friday.
There will be two guest speakers and a power point presentation of the historical roots of the faculty of nursing before the dance starts, said Cody Herrell, one of the organizers and president of the undergraduate bachelor of nursing club.
Delicious food, door prizes and a silent auction will also take place.
It is a great way to honour the nursing program and some of the alumni will also be attending.
“Celebrating that we have such an amazing program at the college that is so highly spoken of by many,” said Herrell.
There will be more than 180 people attending, very good for the first event of its kind, he said. Attendees include current nursing program students from year one through four, alumni, members of the faculty and people in general from the community.
“Anyone who wanted to come was welcome to buy a ticket,” said Herrell.
An event of this kind helps to bring awareness of the nursing program and aspects of it that people other than students may not be aware of. It also helps to create a sense of camaraderie, he said.
There is no particular theme for the evening other than the rich colour tones of jewels and precious gems.
The draw for door prizes will take place about 9 p.m. bearing in mind some of the participants may have to go to work fairly early on Saturday morning.
“Lots of the people are nurses and have a pretty demanding schedule, said Herrell who looks to the future and expects the annual event to be a highlight each year.
