Medicine Hat News Eagle Butte High School’s long-delayed modernization will get started in earnest as contracts for the work should be tendered out by the end of January, reported PRSD director of maintenance operations Darrell Drefs at Tuesday’s public meeting. Work on the modernization itself should commence by spring. Drefs felt confident the division could have the school’s septic field upgrade, and its estimated $1-million price tag, hived off from the main project as previously hoped. The News reported in September the Eagle Butte septic field upgrade had originally been projected at $35,000, but came in at $1 million after the engineering assessment. By hiving off the septic field under a separate grant application PRSD expected the modernization at Eagle Butte could proceed sooner rather than later. “We are looking at all that is required for us to do that septic field,” said Drefs, “and to get the funding necessary to deal with it. Whether it’s going to be built within the (modernization) project or without, or as just a project within the project — hopefully this modernization will happen right away, and the septic field will follow shortly.” 6
