Medicine Hat News If you or a loved one is dealing with a diagnosis of dementia, you are invited to an informal gathering with others in the same position. On Monday, and then again on Feb. 5, at the Station Cafe on Second Street downtown, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., the local chapter of the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories is hosting discussions. There will be coffee and treats provided and a different educational component each month. The idea is to create a “dementia-friendly” experience where a different action, word, or symptom of dementia will be understood and not stigmatized, said Alariss Schmid, community relations for Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories-Medicine Hat. It will also be an opportunity for people to create new friendships and for support and understanding of their experiences living with dementia. 7
