Medicine Hat News Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for Medicine Hat and southern Alberta, with low temperatures expected to continue until the end of the week. The warning was issued at 11 a.m., Tuesday morning and was continued overnight. Warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia. A period of very cold wind chills is expected, said Environment Canada, with west winds expected today increasing from 20 kilometres per hour to 40 in the afternoon. The high will be minus 21, but extreme wind chill will make it minus 41. There is also a 30 per cent chance of flurries in the afternoon. Overnight, the low is expected to be minus 41, with a 40 per cent chance of flurries. Environment Canada’s notice states that extreme cold puts everyone at risk, and reminds the public to watch for cold related symptoms, including shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes. 7
