Hampers put together to help college students in need

Medicine Hat College ecumenical chaplain Kristy Reimers-Loader was handing out goodies in the form of Christmas food hampers last Friday for students who may not be eating as healthy as they should at this time of year.

“We have 180 food hampers we are giving away to students to alleviate hunger here at the college,” she said, “to support students to make sure they have got a little extra food in the cupboards as they come into exam week and the Christmas season.”

The hampers were put together and donated by local Christian churches for any college student in need.

“It is all in the spirit of Christmas, and the spirit of giving,” said Reimers-Loader. “Christians in the local area are looking to spread the spirit, and this is one way to do that. And who doesn’t like free stuff, right? It’s all good. Anything we can do to make this time in students’ lives easier to go through, we’re trying. We are doing the best we can.”
