Medicine Hat College’s “Jingle and Mingle” gala event on Dec. 2 will help support Rattlers players in all sports to get the most out of their education, says MHC manager of fund development Jennifer Kerslake.
“The intention of “Jingle and Mingle” is to fundraise for Rattlers athletic scholarships,” Kerslake states. “The Rattlers as an entire entity are vital for our community, and they give back in many different ways over and above their educational and team responsibilities.”
Rattlers volleyball player Tyler Olson says without these kinds of scholarships he couldn’t afford to play the sport he loves at the post-secondary level, and still have time and funds left over to finish his education.
“They don’t just give it to us for no reason,” says Olson. “Playing sports in college is a huge time commitment. Scholarships are basically the reason why I can play volleyball here in Medicine Hat. It helps out a lot and allows me to play the sport I love at this level … I would have to quit (Rattlers) volleyballl and get a part-time job if I didn’t get these scholarships.”
The funds raised at Jingle-Mingle will benefit all 120 athletes who proudly wear the Rattlers jersey at MHC, says Kerslake, and it should be a fun night for all who come out.
“It’s going to be incredible,” she confirms. “It is an opportunity to welcome back some alumni, and open our arms to the community.”
The “Jingle and Mingle” gala kicks off at the college at 5 p.m.
