A man arrested with a stolen firearm in a vehicle entered guilty pleas Tuesday at the Medicine Hat Courthouse, receiving a 90-day sentence.

“These are serious offences,” the Crown said when going over the joint submission recommendations for the sentencing of 24-year-old Brandon Aman, who appeared by closed-circuit TV from the Medicine Hat Remand Centre.

The arrest came on May 14 when police were called over a suspicious woman, and they attended the area to investigate. The area they were called to was also a local residence known to police for being the site of drug activity.

Police observed Aman and a woman sleeping in a vehicle, with unusual items including binoculars that raised suspicion. They woke up Aman, who was in the driver’s set. Aman was confused but identified himself. Police then observed the butt-end of a rife in between Aman’s leg and the console — leading to the careless use/storage of a firearm charge.

Running the information on the firearm, it was discovered the weapon had been stolen, leading to the charge of possessing property obtained by crime.

Aman was also arrested Aug. 20 on an Alberta-wide warrant, and when he was searched, police found in his possession brass knuckles. Aman also pled guilty for failing to appear in court on two occasions as required.

Aman has no criminal record but has other charges still to be dealt with on other matters.

Due to time served, Aman has six days left to serve of his sentence.
