Herald School students are holding a “Coffee, Tea or Hot Chocolate” fundraiser for a local family whose child has been hospitalized in the Alberta Children’s Hospital due to the effects of Crohn’s Disease and Allan-Herndon-Dudley syndrome, a rare brain development disorder.
A GoFundMe page has also been set up for Grade 6 student Matthew Schmidt with the hopes of raising $5,000 to help the family pay for their stay in Calgary while the boy undergoes treatment. Matthew is having multiple surgeries and he will be in the children’s hospital for several weeks.
The school is hoping the public will come by Thursday and Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. to have a hot beverage and some baked goods, and at the same time donate to help the Schmidt family. Anyone coming out for the fundraiser is asked to enter though the north doors of Herald School located at 301 Fifth Street SW.
“Any donation, no matter how big or small will be greatly appreciated,” read the statement released by the school on Wednesday afternoon.
