Medicine Hat’s Curtis Valk has gotten his first NHL call-up, according to multiple tweets out of South Florida.

The 24-year-old Medicine Hat native was signed by the Florida Panthers this offseason after spending three in the Vancouver Canucks organization.

FULL STORY: From Tiger to Panther

Valk has posted 15 points in 16 games for the Panthers AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds, where he has spent the majority of the season as the team’s top-line centre.

The Panthers have recently been dealt injuries to centres Jared McCann and Derek MacKenzie, which has opened up a spot for the former Medicine Hat Tiger.

Valk spent his entire five-year Western Hockey League career with the Tabbies, where he had two 90-point seasons.
