Medicine Hat College is preparing to celebrate International Education Week in a big way Nov. 13-17 with a number of different cultural activities, showcases and guest speakers talking about the importance of international education, says MHC manager of International Education and Diversity Hadija Drummond.

“The purpose of the week is to celebrate the benefits international education brings to campuses and communities across the world,” she says. “So study abroad is one example, but internationalization of the classroom is another part of the curriculum back home … It ends up extending beyond international education in classroom activities and specific learning activities into the broader benefits of having international students and cultural diversity on campus.”

Highlights of the week will include some international cuisine items added to campus restaurant and cafeteria menus, a best international photo contest and a big cultural showcase next Thursday demonstrating the diversity that exists in campus life.

About 10 per cent of MHC students would be classified as international students, says Drummond. She invites the public to come out and celebrate International Education Week with MHC.

“Thursday is definitely going to be the biggest day for us,” she says. “We concentrated activities on that day so that if people from the community want to come in they can see quite a lot in one day.”
