Bail denied for woman accused of assaulting Halloween store clerk with bear spray

Medicine Hat News Bail was denied Wednesday to a woman accused of spraying a Halloween store employee with bearspray while attempting to steal merchandise. Following the hearing, defence counsel entered not-guilty pleas on behalf of the 35-year-old woman who is charged with robbery, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon dangerous. It’s alleged that on Sept. 27, Dreaver was a passenger in a vehicle pulled over for a traffic stop. Police arrested her as she had outstanding warrants, and found in the vehicle — with items she claimed to be hers — a bottle of bear spray. At this time she was charged with possessing a dangerous weapon, but released from custody. Then on Sept. 29, police responded to an incident at the Spirit of Halloween Shop that had been located on Carry Drive — two women were attempting to steal items from the store, and when confronted by a store employee, one produced a can of bearspray and sprayed it directly on the employee. The two women fled, although the one remained outside the store waiting for police —this co-accused pled guilty to theft under $5,000. Dreaver was located on Southview Drive and arrested by police. 8-7
