The 25-year-old Medicine Hat man charged with dangerous driving causing death for a Sept. 11 incident that killed an 18-year-old woman had his matters adjourned in court to Oct. 26.

Defence counsel for Cody David Michell told the Medicine Hat Provincial Court that he is in resolution discussions with the Crown prosecutor, but will also be considering if they want to have a bail hearing at the next court appearance.

Michell remains in custody, and appeared by CCTV from the Medicine Hat Remand Centre.

Michell is accused of stealing a pickup truck on Sept. 11, fleeing in it at a high rate of speed, causing a collision at the intersection of 12th Street NE and Division Avenue, then continuing to drive down 12th Street at an extreme speed until colliding with a Toyota Camry at Parkview Drive. The driver of the Camry, Cerys Passmore, was pronounced dead at the scene.

When taken to hospital, it’s alleged that Michell attempted to pull an officer’s pistol from the holster, but was prevented from doing and brought under control by the officer and medical staff.

Alongside the dangerous driving causing death charge, Michell faces charges of failure to stop at the scene of an accident, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and attempting to disarm a police officer.
