The Local Pop Up Shop group in Medicine Hat held its first-ever Makers Market this weekend at the Ross Creek Business Centre.
The group was established in 2016, and has held a number of different markets in the city, with the goal of promoting local businesses and products.
“We started these markets because it was quite difficult to get into markets at the time,” said co-organizer Bailey Matulin. “We just wanted to create a market for local people who make things, so they could get into a market and sell their stuff.”
The Makers Market featured around 20 vendors, and Matulin says the markets keep growing in popularity.
“We’ve been getting really great responses from a lot of people,” she said. “The first few were pretty slow, for sure, but each one we do it gets better and better, and we even have a pretty big waiting list of people now — they just keep growing each time.”
