Medicine Hat News The Government of Alberta is accepting nominations for the Great Kids Award for youth leaders aged five to 18. The award recognizes children who make a difference in their community while facing challenges, whether it’s dealing with a physical or mental illness, standing up to a bully or managing difficulties at home. “I’ve been so inspired by the stories of Great Kids who are changing the lives of others and leading in their communities,” said Minister of Children’s Services Danielle Larivee. “I encourage Albertans to celebrate these children and youth because they are examples to all Albertans of what can be accomplished in the face of adversity.” Award winners, announced at a spring 2018 ceremony sponsored by Fantasyland Hotel in Edmonton, will receive a free night’s stay there with their parents or caregivers, as well as a West Edmonton Mall attractions pass. Throughout the past 17 years, 274 young people have won the Great Kids Award. Those who wish to nominate a child can visit greatkids.alberta.ca, call 780-422-2165 or send an e-mail to CS.greatkids@gov.ab.ca. Nominations are open until Nov. 24 at 4 p.m. 9
