Medicine Hat might be the Gas City, but Hatters know their snakes, too.

A weather photo on Page A4 Tuesday showed a photo of a snake that was identified as a baby rattlesnake, but two readers were quick to correct us.

It was actually a wandering garter snake, said Doug Etherington and Crysta Perak in separate emails.

Perak said the wandering garter snake is a “harmless slug/amphibian eater. Great for the garden.”

She wants to make sure locals “don’t harm these beautiful creatures as they get ready for their winter hibernation.”
