Police are investigating after a body was found near the corner of Smelter Avenue and Mill Street at about 7 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
Major Crimes Section investigators on the scene told the News they were still surveying the area at about 9:30 a.m., but would only confirm they are looking into a report of a sudden death.
More information may be released this afternoon.
Residents in the area told reporters that they believe the victim was a neighbour and that the body was found when another resident took a dog for an early morning walk.
Several police vehicles blocked from view the laneway near the intersection in the South Flats near a field area towards the Seven Persons Creek.
The owner of a construction shop across the intersection said that he was surprised to find police investigating this morning.
“It’s a pretty good neighbourhood with everybody kind of looking in on each other,” said Darrell Hamell, the owner of Certiroofs, Inc. “It’s kind of a shock.”
