UPDATE 2: City crews have restored power to most of the city. In a series of tweets throughout Monday, the city announced which areas of the city power has been restored in, noting at 1:30 p.m. that crews were dealing with “one offs and Range Roads outages.”

The city also issued a note of caution about parking vehicles and walking under trees due to the increased risk of falling branches due to high winds and wet, heavy snow. The city also advised that solid waste and yard waste collection scheduled for Zone 4 on Monday has been delayed and that the landfill is closed today due to a power outage.

UPDATE: The city says the areas affected in the city are the Flats, Parkview, NW Crescent Heights as well as the light industrial & and airport areas including Tower Estates.

The City of Medicine Hat is reporting multiple power outages due to the sudden winter weather.

“We’ve got all crews out responding as it’s safe to do so,” said Donna Brinkworth, communications officer with the City, “and choosing the order in which they can respond to things.”

The extent of power outages is unknown at this point, but Brinkworth said it appears to be multiple small ones all over the city. People can look for updates on the city’s social media.

If experiencing a power outage, the public is asked to call in to the emergency line, 403-529-8260, to ensure the city is aware of any issue.

“One of the things we do want people to know, is we just want people to stay 10 feet back from any potential issue, so if a tree is down or a hydro pole has a line hanging from it, stay 10 metres back from it and call it in,” Brinkworth said.
