South Country Co-op provided a $5,000 donation to South East Alberta Search and Rescue on Thursday.

SEASAR president Paul Carolan said the donate will be of much assistance to the group in its search, rescue and preventative services throughout the region.

“It isn’t unusual for people to think that we’re a paid service, or that the governments pay our bills,” Carolan said. “In fact, we’re 100 per cent volunteer and almost all of our funding come(s) from strong community partners like South Country Co-op.”

He added that he is “very grateful” for the co-op’s support.

“They are wonderful people with a true sense of community,” said Carolan. “I know their donation will be put to good use in the months ahead.”

SEASAR had 17 active calls from local police services or RCMP this summer. They also spend much time and resources training volunteers and maintaining equipment.
