The case of man accused of a hospital parking lot robbery will be heading to trial.

Defence counsel for Jesse Leckner entered not-guilty pleas Tuesday in Medicine Hat court so a trial date could be set down.

The 26-year-old man has been charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, possession of stolen property and threats to cause death.

According to city police, on Aug. 13, a man was seated in his vehicle at a parking lot at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, when he was approached by a man asking to sit in the vehicle. The driver allowed him to sit in the vehicle, as they had been discussing the “for sale” sign on it.

The driver attempted to end the conversation, at which point the accused allegedly attempted to take the keys. The driver resisted, and was sprayed with bear spray. The man fled with the driver’s backpack, which contained an iPad, but was later located by police using the iPad’s tracking app.

The 26-year-old man was denied bail last week, and remains in custody at the Medicine Hat Remand Centre.
