A free Alberta Health Services tobacco-cessation program called QuitCore provides tools and support for people wanting to stop smoking, and the next program in Medicine Hat starts Sept.14.

The program takes place on Thursdays from 2-3:30 p.m.

Trained professionals teach people how to develop a plan to quit while providing strategies to address recovery symptoms, manage stress and, ultimately, prevent relapse. The program also connects participants with others trying to quit.

The workshops take place in the Community Health Services building, 2948Dunmore Rd. To register call toll-free 1-866-710-QUIT (7848).

Tobacco is the leading preventable cause of disease, disability and premature death in Alberta, causing more than 3,000 deaths each year across the province. Many more Albertans have tobacco-related illnesses.
