Couple wins 1,000 times more than first thought

Medicine Hat News Blaine and Stephanie Vachon of Redcliff were extra surprised by their July 14 major lottery win. The couple first thought they had won $250 on their Lotto Max and Extra ticket but couldn’t believe their eyes when they discovered they actually won $250,000. “The store was really busy when I scanned my ticket on the ticket checker,” Blaine said. “I was distracted by all the people, so I thought the amount on the screen said $250.” “We didn’t know that we won the much larger prize until we checked the ticket on the WCLC mobile app later that day,” said Stephanie. “We were pretty surprised when we saw all the zeros.” The Vachons said they only have a couple plans for their winnings. “We’re going to pay off our mortgage and put away for our retirement,” said Stephanie. Blaine purchased the winning ticket at Hat News and Tobacco, on Seventh Street SE in Medicine Hat. 8-7
