With defence counsel still waiting for an autopsy report, a preliminary trial date for a man accused of second-degree murder has yet to be set.

At a brief court appearance Thursday, defence counsel for Noah Harrison Bentley set his next court date for Sept. 7, in hopes of setting a preliminary hearing date at that time.

The Crown on Thursday told the court that its office has made inquiries with the medical examiner’s office in Calgary, and has been told that the report should be available by the end of August. The Crown said its office was told the delay has come as the findings of the autopsy have to undergo a peer review.

Bentley was charged Nov. 12 following the death of Brenda Woloski. He has been in custody ever since, and he has yet to have a bail hearing. He has not entered a plea to the charge. Earlier this year, he was sent for assessment in Calgary as to whether he could be held criminally responsible.
