Local man dies on Hwy 41 near Elkwater

A Medicine Hat man has died after failing to negotiate a curve in the road south of Elkwater on Thursday morning.

Redcliff RCMP say the 46-year-old man was about five kilometres south on Highway 41 when the single-vehicle accident occurred at about 6:30 a.m.

Sources tell the News the man was driving a Ford F350 truck and pulling an empty horse trailer.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident, but are warning that other motorists driving by an accident scene to take photos is a hazard.

Mounties on scene issued a ticket for distracted driving to a motorist who passed by while taking images with a smartphone.

“It is illegal, unsafe and disrespectful when driving through a collision scene to be taking photographs,” read a portion of the press release.
