Poor air quality in Medicine Hat caused by smoke from B.C. fires

By Medicine Hat News on August 14, 2017.

A special air quality statement has been issued for Medicine Hat and most of Alberta Monday morning.

Smoke from wildfires in British Columbia has rolled into Alberta causing poor and reduced visibility. The situation is expected to improve later today as an expected cold front makes its way across the province.

Coughing, throat irritation, headaches and shortness of breath may be experienced, notes the Environment Canada statement, which goes on to advise that children, seniors and those with cardiovascular disease are especially at-risk.

The air quality statement stretches from the southeast corner of the province west to the Cardston area, north to Barrhead and back east to the Saskatchewan boundary.
