Construction moving further down South Railway Street

Construction crews are again preparing to leapfrog construction work further down South Railway Street.

Work to replace underground pipes and sewer lines on the aging, rippled road has been moving north from the base of Scholten Hill this summer, bring detours around the narrow road.

Starting next week construction will move to a portion between Smelter Avenue and Ninth Street, S.E., with crews closing Smelter Ave. intersection for about three weeks and forcing traffic onto Factory Street.

Access to South Railway Street businesses west of Smelter Avenue will be from Ninth Street. Access to businesses east of Smelter Avenue will be from Factory Street.

Once the intersection is reopened, northbound, one-way traffic will be restored on South Railway Street.

Access to all local businesses will be maintained, according to a a city release. It’s assumed that all firms are conducting regular business during the construction.
