Friday evening Checkstop program

The Medicine Hat Police Service had a busy night Friday, checking more than 1,900 cars in an Alberta Enhanced Checkstop Program at various locations around Medicine Hat.

Of the 1,900-plus cars checked, one person was arrested and charged for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and driving with a blood-alcohol content of more than 0.08.

Two people received a three-day licence suspension after they provided a breath sample resulting in blood alcohol between 50mg per cent and 100mg per cent.

Six Traffic Safety Act tickets were issued.

42 warnings were issued for Traffic Safety Act violations.

Three warnings were issued for Liquor Act violations

The MHPS is encouraging Hatters to take other means of travel if they are drinking, or under another influence.

“As the City of Medicine Hat enjoys the Stampede weekend we’d like to remind motorists to choose alternative forms of transportation if you’ve been consuming alcohol and/or drugs,” said a Saturday morning release.
