Medicine Hat News A major Alberta-based utility company has signed a partnership agreement with the Siksika Nation to develop renewable and gas-fired power generation projects on the reserve near Gleichen. Capital Power revealed the agreement while announcing its second quarter financial performance on Wednesday. The deal would see the Edmonton-based power company build and operate new projects on the 172,000-acre reserve located near Bassano, while the band would be joint owner through its corporation, Siksika Resource Developments Limited. Capital Power’s current projects in the Alberta Electrical System Operators development queue shows plans for wind farm development in Halkrik and Whitla, near Medicine Hat, as well as a 100-megawatt solar facility in Alderson. Those projects are expected to be bid into Alberta green energy supply auction that for contracts starting in early 2019. In its financial update, Capital stated that revenue from typical operations in the second quarter of 2017 was $26 million, down slightly from the same quarter in 2016, though other adjustments pushed profits to $109 million. 8
