Kinsmen Home Lotto delayed

Initial delays have pushed the annual Kinsmen Home Lotto draw off its usual schedule, but organizers say the home will be worth the wait.

Typically the home — raffled off to support free swimming, skating and other grants from the service club — is awarded in June or July.

Last winter, draw organizers and the city’s land department took longer than expected to complete negotiations. Eventually the Kinsmen asked City council to broker a better deal.

As such, construction started later than usual at the site in Saamis Heights, and the draw date has been extended to September 15.

“Because we got a late start in acquiring a lot for Home Lotto, that inevitably lead to a late opening for public viewing” said co-chair Adam Thompson in a release.

The house, located at 59 Sierra Road, will be open for viewing on August 18.

The last day to purchase tickets will be September 10.

“We are privileged enough to have great community support for this project,” said Thompson. “We would like to thank all our supporters for their patience and we invite everyone to stop in and view the house and support your community by purchasing a ticket.”
