Medicine Hat News MedicineHat police have arrested one man after allegedly catching him with a number of illegal objects, including a loaded firearm early Saturday morning. On Saturday, just after midnight, police responded to a report of suspicious activity on the South East Hill. Upon arrival, officers located a man exiting a vehicle which was confirmed as stolen out of Moose Jaw. The man was challenged to comply with police directions, at which time he did not comply and attempted to access the driver’s seat area of the vehicle. Police moved in and placed the subject into custody. Post arrest, police located a loaded 12-gauge shot gun under the driver’s seat with several additional rounds located in the vehicle. Further search revealed instruments for breaking and entering. A prohibited knife was located on his person, hidden in his waist band. The man was found to be in breach of three firearms prohibition orders from previous criminal convictions. The man faces charges of possessing of stolen property over $5,000, possessing break in instruments, six counts of breaking prohibition orders, carrying a concealed weapon, two counts of possessing of dangerous weapons, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possessing a loaded firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle. The MHPS is reminding people to call in any activity they may seem suspicious. “Safe neighbourhood vigilance was the key factor to detecting this man and helping police remove him and a firearm from our community. Anytime you see suspicious activity in your community, contact police. As this call demonstrates, proactive neighbours can help keep our city a safe place to live,” said the Saturday morning media release from police. 10
