Eight people have been arrested after a drug trafficking investigation in southeastern Alberta by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT).

Charges have so far been laid against three of those arrested, including one person from Medicine Hat.

Two firearms, ammunition, cocaine and methamphetamine, contraband cigarettes and cash proceeds of crime were seized on Nov. 8 by members of Medicine Hat’s ALERT organized crime team. Members of Medicine Hat Police Service, and RCMP detachments in Redcliff and Brooks assisted. Searches were conducted at a rural residence in Tilley and a vehicle in Medicine Hat.

Justin Crawford, 34, of Medicine Hat, faces more than a dozen charges, including two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Alan Dressel, 40, of Tilley, has been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of the proceeds of crime, among other charges.

Both were arrested in separate ALERT investigations earlier this year, Dressel in August and Crawford in October.

Saskatchewan resident Rodney McNabb, 39, was charged for being unlawfully at-large.

The other five arrested have yet to be formally charged.
