Immanuel Moritz vows to pledge his time and service to Medicine Hat if elected to city council.

Moritz was born in West Germany. His parents immigrated in the 1950s. Moritz is a graduate of McCoy High School and the University of Manitoba.

“Most of my life was spent in construction,” said Moritz. “My parents started a construction business and that business, Moritz Masonry, is still ongoing. It’s always nice to see in small towns that those businesses will last.”

Moritz worked at Moritz Masonry until 2000, when he started his own company, Falke Construction. He retired in 2011 so he and his wife could travel and spend more time together.

“I served 10 years on the municipal planning commission and I served two terms on the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education,” said Moritz. “I know how government works.”

Moritz believes sitting on council is about community service.

“Medicine Hat is a great place to live. We’ve got resources, we’ve got great people that live here, and I think I can bring something to council that will ensure that continues,” said Moritz. “I’ve got skills and talents and I’m willing to share my time.”

Moritz promises to focus on fiscal responsibility.

“We have to ensure that the money is spent wisely and we get good value for that money,” said Moritz. “It’s great that the City of Medicine Hat has reserves to cover those shortfalls, but we can’t rely on that forever.”

Moritz wants to keep the citizens of Medicine Hat well informed.

“Information is the currency of the 21st Century, and it’s incumbent upon council and the members of city hall, to share that information with citizens,” he says.

Moritz says he’s dedicated to the city and hopes for a spot on council.

“If you elect me, I’ll pledge to spend my time, my talent, my skill and lots of experience in your service. I’ll bring your voice to council. I’m a good listener; I may not agree with you but I’ll listen and I’ll tell you my point of view.”
