Library Chat: Stuffie Sleepover will show the night side of MHPL

By Ken Feser on October 25, 2019.

The library does an incredible amount of programming. In the past couple of years programming has doubled and attendance has gone up by 40%. Let me share a sample of what will be going on over the next couple of weeks.

Have you ever wondered what your children’s toys get up to when the lights are out? Or what happens in the library when everyone goes home? Those burning questions will be answered on Nov. 2 at our Stuffie Sleepover. Kids 5-9 can bring their stuffed friends in from 1-2 p.m. for storytime and activities. The stuffies will stay overnight and we will have our cameras out to discover just what shenanigans occur. Please register in advance here are only five spots left so act fast.

If preregistration stresses you out, you can drop in with your kids for LEGO play on Sundays from 2-4 p.m. We also have drop in kids movies in our theatre on Saturdays at 2 p.m. On Oct. 26 we show “Hotel Transylvania” and Nov. 2 we show “UglyDolls,” where the previously mentioned stuffies will be in attendance.

Sunrise Rotary Club has generously supported Rise and Shine Coffee at the library on Monday and Wednesday mornings for several months. This Wednesday is going to be the last day we do it for a while. We do plan to bring it back in some form as it has been a great way for staff and patrons to meet each other. Join us for the last hurrah; I’m told there will be donuts.

The World Under 17 Hockey Challenge is coming to Medicine Hat and we’re celebrating by showing some free classic hockey movies. On Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. we are showing “The Mighty Ducks,” an inspiring hockey tale that eventually led to the worst NHL franchise name in history. On Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m. it will be “Score: A Hockey Musical,” which features a home-schooled hockey prodigy taking his shot at the big time, and also people singing. Finally Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m. we show “The Rocket,” which is about some guy named Maurice. I hope you find something to enjoy!
