Cara Matthew, who sings jazz renditions of popular rock and pop songs, will perform at Cafe Verve on May 3.

Standing out from the crowd is one way to make your mark in music. Vancouver-born, Toronto-based singer Cara Matthew has found a pretty unique niche to call her own: Jazz and blues renditions of rock and pop chart toppers.

Matthew will perform some of these tunes and possibly some original music at Cafe Verve on Friday. The show starts at 7 p.m.

Matthew’s debut, “Make You Feel My Love,” was released in 2009. It featured jazz renditions of songs by Joni Mitchell, Elton John and Aerosmith to name a few.

She followed it up with “Everybody Hurts” in 2016, which contained songs by Katy Perry, the BeeGees and, of course, R.E.M.

Matthew is chasing her dream and hopes she can inspire others to do the same.

“What is your dream and are you awakened enough to go after it?,” she asks on her bio.
