Everyone knows students live for a snow day. But did you know teachers, other adults and even seniors feel the same?

Hatterland Children’s Theatre will show just how much fun one can be in “Just Another Snow Day” next week. The play will run Jan. 24-26 at 7 p.m. and Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. at Medicine Hat High School’s Karen Cunningham Performing Arts Centre.

“Things are going awesome,” said director and Hatterland president Lilas Litousky. “We laugh every rehearsal so because we’re laughing every rehearsal we’re hoping that translates to our audience and we’re pretty sure they’re going to have a good time because of the amount of comedy in this play. There’s comedy in every scene. There’ll be something for everyone to laugh at.”

The play will follow people of all ages on what they do when their small town is hit by a snow day. Storylines include seniors walking to the park, a student and teacher who play video games and two teens trapped in a car. There’s also a teenager testing the theory of tongue versus pole, naturally.

Hatterland has been around for 54 years, performing all manner of shows, from dramas and classics to musicals and comedies. As with any Hatterland show the youthful cast means a different sort of theatre offering for the community. As well, the kids get a chance to dip their toes into theatre at a young age and learn quite a bit.

“This one being a comedy they are learning such valuable skills as comedic timing and to allow the audience to also enjoy the moment so not to rush the laughter,” Litousky explained. “Comedy is all about the connection between actor and audience and so our audience gets to have a wonderful opportunity to experience that connection.”

The theatre at Hat High is located north of the school, on the corner of Fifth Street and First Avenue S.W.

Tickets are available at tixx.ca, by calling 403-502-8777 or in person at the Esplanade box office or the Medicine Hat Mall customer service desk. They will also be available at the door for a slightly higher price.
