Hatters can get their fill of culture this weekend at the annual Culture Days, celebrated across the province.
Events will be held at the Esplanade, the Cultural Centre, Medicine Hat Public Library, Medalta and Police Point Park Nature Centre.
The final Art Walk of the year takes place tonight in downtown Medicine Hat “with the most pop-up venues we have ever had on top of the core venues,” said Tobie Laliberte of the Esplanade. The Art Walk includes the Esplanade public reception in the Art Gallery with painter Yulin Wang, a Visual Communications instructor at Medicine Hat College (Time Space Legacy), and Edmonton artist Sean Caulfield (The Flood and Other Works).
The Art Walk also features displays at the Cypress Club, the library, Adam’s Jewellery and more. Live music and art will be featured at Inspire Studio Gallery and Cafe, The Hive and at the Framing and Art Centre/The Clay Trade.
At the public library, the fifth anniversary of the Human Library Collection will be commemorated with a reception from 5:30-8:30 p.m. today.
On Saturday, the Cultural Centre will be a beehive of activity from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with members of the Medicine Hat Potters Association, the Hat Art Club and the Fibre Arts club showing off their talents at open houses. There will be displays and activities, items for sale and, in some cases, opportunities for the public to participate.
Pecha Kucha Vol. 19 takes place Saturday (8:20 p.m.) at the Veiner Centre and on Sunday, a Fall Festival at Police Point Park Nature Centre will be held from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Featured will be a major exhibition by the Medicine Hat Art Club at the newly renovated Nature Centre. The exhibition will be kept on display until December.
Medalta is also offering free admission Friday and Saturday. An exhibition by Martina Lantin and Zimra Beiner called a Better Understanding is on display in the Yuill Gallery.
