Rock Ramblings: Female-fronted tours a way of the future?

By Medicine Hat News on February 22, 2018.

I love rock concerts. I’ve talked many times about the rush and endorphin high you get from live music. Hundreds of people, or maybe just a few, surrounding you. Everyone cheering for something they mutually love. Something that brings us together. Music just provides that healing energy to any situation and can lift up your spirits. But if there is one thing I have noticed, in rock music there aren’t always a lot of female-lead tours. Until now!

Halestorm will be headlining a tour with In This Moment and they’ll be joined by special guests Stitched Up Heart and New Years Day. Although this is an American tour, I can’t help but to feel stoked for these groups as their leading ladies bring the fire! Halestorm also just wrapped up a show in Lethbridge with Stone Sour.

Lizzy Hale, one of the most exceptional female vocalists of our generation (IMOÉ but seriously, have you heard her pipes?) and the front of Halestorm, believes this tour is a huge step for female rockers.

“We are a few of the hardest-working women in rock, so the fact that we are all on the same stage every night is something not to be missed! We support and love each other, and we are representing our genre. This lineup is a beautiful display of what it means to be a strong female example for rock fans everywhere.” — Lizzy Hale. The women fronting these bands include: Lizzy Hale — Halestorm; Maria Brink — In This Moment; Alecia “Mixi” Demner — Stitched Up Heart; and Ashley Costello — New Years Day.

The tour begins in Jacksonville, Fla., and makes stops in 14 cities including Houston, Pittsburgh and Charlotte, and finishes its jaunt in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Another incredible vocalist, Maria Brink from In This Moment said she was very excited to be a part of such an “empowering and divine female- fronted tour.” Adding that it is very rare in rock music. (pulseofradio.com)

If you have the time and the cash, I’d highly recommend scooping up some tickets to a stop on their tour.

Although not joining this tour, another great female band to keep your eye on is The Beaches. Catch their newest hit “Money” on 105.3 Rock.

We live in a time where empowerment for all walks of life is largely pushed and becoming more and more accepted, and I already have my seatbelt buckled on the female empowerment train. This tour is a huge step for female rockers everywhere, and I hope it sparks a chain reaction for more!

Melissa Thomas is a producer at 105.3 ROCK and on air Monday and Tuesday from 7-11 p.m. and Saturday from 4-8 p.m.
