A show that you would normally have to travel to Vancouver, Toronto or even further to see is coming to our own backyard.

Renowned Canadian singers Suzie LeBlanc and Daniel Taylor will perform at the Esplanade on Feb. 20.

LeBlanc is one of the most sought-after early music sopranos of her generation, and Taylor is one of the top countertenors on the planet.

“This is really an outstanding opportunity to see arguably some of the best artists of our day,” says Brent Rinaldi, who is helping to promote the show that will see all proceeds go to support local scholarships through the Medicine Hat Symphonic Society.

The concert came about through a friendship between Robert Bardston, a local voice and cello instructor who has been involved in music in Medicine Hat for more than 30 years, and LeBlanc, his one-time roommate in Montreal.

Rinaldi said it’s only through a favour from LeBlanc to Bardston, who will also perform at the show, that the concert is stopping in Medicine Hat. Famous arias of various operas well know to most people will be the focus of the show.

LeBlanc has performed at De Nederlandse Opera, Festival de Beaune, Opera de Montreal, Boston Early Music Festival, Tanglewood and Early Music Vancouver.

Taylor has more than 100 recordings to his name and has appeared in operas, oratorios, and symphonic works across the world.

Also at the show will be Alexander Weimann, a highly respected ensemble director, soloist and chamber music artist.

Tickets, $39 for adults and $19 children and students, plus service charge and GST, are available at http://www.tixx.ca, by calling 403-502-8777 or in person at the Esplanade box office or the Medicine Hat Mall customer service desk.
