Opus Cactus is set to warm hearts, minds and souls next week at the Esplanade.

Presented by Momix, an internationally renowned company of dancers and illusionists, Opus Cactus is a desert-themed, two-hour performance that will take the audience across the landscape of the Sonora Desert.

“It’s a theatre of images and kind of surprises that are physical but not your typical dance,” Momix artistic direct Moses Pendleton said recently. “So we use props and lighting and costumes and various kinds of music to create a kind of series of images.”

Pendleton says Momix at its core is about watching incredible bodies doing amazing things.

“It’s a very physical, athletic show and it takes a lot of stamina and power and physical technique just to achieve the images,” he said. “And I think that part of the illusion, just the illusion of highly trained dancers. Not unlike the illusion of Roger Federer or Lindsay Vonn. They are doing things that you know in reality but you still can’t believe it.”

Tickets, $59 plus service charge and GST, are available at http://www.tixx.ca, by calling 403-502-8777 or in person at the Esplanade box office or the Medicine Hat Mall customer service desk. A bundle package that includes tickets to the Ballet Jorgen Anastasia show on March 10 is also available.
