Ticked Off and Tickled Pink, April 2, 2026

Tickled Pink

That all my editorials, opinions and letters are published in the Monday editions of the Medicine Hat News.

(Happy April Fools Day)

Tickled Pink

With all the volunteers for the MLA recall and Forever Canadian petitions. Well done. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed.

Ticked Off

That our premier never mentions the millions the federal government pours into the oil industry here in Alberta.

Tickled Pink

I won’t be voting for his party but I will be listening to Avi Lewis. The NDP picked the right person to lead them into the future. There is room for a third party in Canadian politics and that party has picked an intelligent, articulate and energetic leader.

Ticked Off

While I am a fan of our Tigers, the constant booing at the Regina player Saturday was so unsportsmanlike and a poor representation of Medicine Hat. I was embarrassed. I feel it helped the Pats team play very well and therefore they came out the winner.

Ticked Off

The city needs and wants your support at Co-op Place, seating capacity 7,000. Onsite parking stalls, 1,400. Another 1,300 public stalls within five-minute walk, not sure where they are. Even with approved parking at nearby businesses, parking at Co-op Place is insufficient. Instead of fixing this ongoing problem the city is handing out parking tickets.

Ticked Off

Insurance companies fake their customer satisfaction surveys. I gave my broker 10 but the company got a 3 for its horrible phone system. She lost her bonus because my review of the company.

Tickled Pink

Thank you Jessie, Riley and Joel for your expert knowledge, kindness and compassion! It made all the difference. The world is better because of you.

Ticked Off

That the city has been funding downtown to improve safety and create a more welcoming city centre for the past 20 years. When will we ever see the results?

Tickled Pink

The federal NDP convention on the weekend revealed that the “woke” narrative coupled with the “green religion” brings to the surface the insanity hiding among us.

Ticked Off

On one hand premier Smith says she supports direct democracy but on the other wants a motion in the legislature to support the province choosing justices before the referendum on the issue is decided on by the people.

Ticked Off

Friday comics on Thursday. Yes I saw your Thursday note. And your ticked off comment. By your logic you could just run all the comics on Tuesday and be done with it. They’re called dailies for a reason. Same as the newspaper. It has daily features. It’s not a web page where you post what you want when you want and readers read what they want when they want. It’s a tradition since 1885. (Editor’s note: Sadly, as is the evolution of business, we have to make adjustments sometimes. We didn’t want to skip a day of comics altogether as that would upset people. Unfortunately, we didn’t anticipate the ire of those whose weekend would be ruined by getting one page a day early. On that note, and you might wanna sit down for this… there is no paper at all on Friday, so I’m putting two comics pages in Thursday again. Friday’s comics are on B5, so I beg of you, when you finish the crossword puzzle on B3, set the paper down for a day.)

Tickled Pink

With the deer management letter to editor by Lois Bourassa. Excellent. Yes please. They do not belong in the city. Please remove them to the country where they belong. Thank you.

Tickled Pink

Just drove over 2,000 km up north and back. Roads were excellent and all the drivers were courteous and drove safely. We did not see one instance of poor driving or ignoring traffic rules. Some of the trip was in poor weather. Thanks for the highway cameras as well. Kudos to you all who were on the road at same time as us. Well done.

Tickled Pink

Tuesday’s paper included an article on Bill 22, updating the Animal Protection Act. I am very pleased to see the ongoing efforts of ABSPCA (not affiliated with the local SPCA) and their partners taking shape. Now let’s just get it passed!

Ticked Off

“We must increase education spending.” Education taxes skyrocket. “We didn’t mean we had to pay for it.”

Ticked Off

Recovery Alberta is just steaming ahead with its provincial plan. Do all hospitals need more involuntary treatment rooms? Don’t hospitals need more acute capacity, decreased waiting times, appropriate staffing and balanced workloads?

Tickled Pink

Bravo to the Redcliff resident’s recent letter to the editor regarding “population reduction” of the urban deer population. Medicine Hat should listen up and follow what B.C. is doing by adopting that logical process of harvesting these problematic animals. The meat and hides are being wisely used. Thanks to the writer for doing such extensive research. Well done!

Ticked Off

What does that mean, “balance Alberta classrooms on all issues”? That’s what teachers do, and with a curriculum set by a committee, not the political party in government at the time. This is ridiculous and frightening.

Ticked Off

It’s hard to believe Jeffrey Rath passed Grade 6, let alone that he is a lawyer. Any Albertan listening to this ignorant man, espousing his separatist message, must have very low standards.

Tickled Pink

Self-employed individuals have the ability to work very hard six days a week should they choose to. I chose to work part time Tuesday to Friday, occasionally a Saturday morning. I don’t need to burn out, earn a ton and I get to start at 10 a.m. and finish at 5 p.m. Time for friends, family coffees and so much more.
