Ticked Off and Tickled Pink, Oct. 28, 2025

Ticked Off

At the changes the UCP government made to our local voting process. Doing away with non-networked electronic tabulators because of unfounded claims of “voter fraud” was a waste of money, time and resources.

Tickled Pink

So glad Cassi Hider’s last-minute video didn’t deter people from voting for Linnsie Clark for mayor.

Tickled Pink

With who got in for mayor and council.

Tickled Pink

Changed my dental office to the one near the lab. Such a wonderful change.

Ticked Off

At the high subsidy rate: Alberta provides one of the highest rates of per-student funding for private schools in the country. The funding rate is approximately 70% of the public per-student grant.

Tickled Pink

Excited with election results for council. Here is a diverse group hand picked. No pun intended.

Tickled Pink

Voters who came out to vote, thank you for exercising your right!

Ticked Off

Please in future set a bylaw for councillors limiting consecutive terms. Otherwise self-serving egos spoil the soup.

Ticked Off

Poilievre keeps making claims about others but refuses to undergo a security clearance check himself. I think he is hiding something. That is why he refuses to get a security clearance, he has something he needs to keep hidden. The man is poison.

Tickled Pink

With the News’s “It’s Old News” page. Even the old ads and pricing are interesting. But again this week there is no date. Knowing when would really give the page context and meaning. (Editor’s note: We include a write-up with that page each time which explains the date and why we chose that moment in history for our ‘It’s Old News’ feature. For example, last week we ran the Blue Jays first World Series win from October 1992.)

Tickled Pink

With the Veiner Centre voting station allowing voters to line up inside. Other stations might consider this. A few chairs may help those who can’t stand for long periods of time. Bring back electronic ballot counting, please. Ridiculously long wait for the councillors in 6-7-8 spots.

Tickled Pink

Thank you to our former councillors for your sacrifice, showing grace under pressure and total commitment to this city and the people. You performed your jobs with calmness and strength, much appreciation for all your hard work.

Ticked Off

Going back to manual ballot counting is another example of Danielle Smith doing what Donald Trump does. Monkey see monkey do.

Ticked Off

Alberta is a very sick province and the UCP is only making it sicker. Alberta would rather give hundreds of millions to coal companies than invest in our children. Very strange priorities.

Ticked Off

I am very ashamed I live in the riding that elected Danielle Smith. Her party and her leadership is taking us in a direction the majority of Alberta’s population does not want to go. Where is her recall petition? I would like to sign.

Tickled Pink

It looks like we got a very good group of people to run our city. I have confidence they will spend our tax dollars wisely and work toward making our city a great place to live. If only our province had as good representation.

Ticked Off

Why is Alberta’s government so inept that it cannot reach an agreement with teachers? It is because they have no interest in doing the job we elected them to do.

Tickled Pink

I have a renewed sense of hope with Medicine Hat’s newly elected council. Looks like Calgary had the same outcome.

Tickled Pink

Please stop changing the time. It serves absolutely no purpose. Just pick a time and stick with it.

Who did the city hire that suddenly hates motorcycles and bicycles? From the narrowing of Division Avenue to making the crosswalks slippery. Yikes, is the new red and white metre-wide crosswalk by Finlay Bridge scary. (Editor’s note: *sees a crosswalk painted in honour of military veterans, immediately assumes it’s an attack on two-wheeled vehicles.* One of the best things about Medicine Hat is how no one ever takes things personally for no reason at all.)

Tickled Pink

Doug Ford caused the big bully to be slapped. He didn’t like it much. He might bitch about it a bit. But hopefully he’ll learn a bit, too. We can only hope. The U.S. public might learn even more.

Tickled Pink

Thank you, Joe from Home Care and helper, for your down-to-earth attitude and truly kind, compassionate and extra helpful care. You made all the difference! My doctor could take notes from you.

Tickled Pink

Thank you, veterans. Thank you, Legion. It is sad we had to fight but I am grateful to the soldiers and their families for stepping up.

Ticked Off

That Highwaymen Great Outlaws Tribute at the Esplanade, and Terri Clark and Paul Brandt at the Co-op Centre, have been scheduled for the same day, Nov. 15. Since both of these shows are country music, people might like going to both. Seems like poor planning by someone.

Ticked Off

Private and charter school funding increases are triple the percentage of public schools, including building new private schools. This could easily fund classroom size and composition but Danielle Smith has to appease private school lobbyists, many with direct ties to the UCP. She has made it clear she is intentionally trying to dismantle our public education system.

Tickled Pink

It is awesome that we have a crosswalk remembering our veterans! Great job to the people involved.

Ticked Off

MAGA has completely backfired. Nothing is better. I am just glad we don’t have a Trump wannabe running this country.

Ticked Off

No one, even the non-illustrious editor of the News has pointed out the elephant in the room when it came to the hand counted ballots. With the record number of candidates, would it not take extra time to tabulate? That was the issue I’d say, but why do that when you can trot out the tired old trope of blaming Smith and Wright? This newspaper has become so tedious. (Editor’s note: In 2021 there were 32 candidates for council and we knew the winners the same day. I guess it’s possible that seven more candidates and a lower voter turnout this year added 70 hours to the process. But we’re still going to ask around a little though, if it’s OK with you.)

Ticked Off

That people do not clean up their leaves from their trees. Because your so lazy I need to rake my lawn full of your garbage.

Ticked Off

It is obvious president Trump has no idea what he is doing. What has he accomplished in his term in office? Nothing comes to mind. He has been a scourge on humanity.

Tickled Pink

I am so pleased a petition has started to potentially, and hopefully, remove Minister of Education D Nicolaides from his seat and post. Like his incompetent predecessor, A LaGrange, he continues to destroy education across Alberta. Don’t let the door hit you on your way out!
