Ticked Off Nineteen U.S. states contribute more money to Washington than they receive in return. As the 51st state, Alberta would become the 20th. It’s best to deal with the devil you know than the devil you don’t. Tickled Pink City election nearing, let’s bring back familiar faces from when council led city hall with authority and actually worked for the citizens of Medicine Hat. Candidates, you all witnessed what not to do, please have courage and fortitude in your position to be our new leaders. Tickled Pink Very happy to see Ms. Sharps running again, the only one on council to call a spade a spade. Tickled Pink With Kris Samraj’s candidacy for mayor. When he served on council he was highly principled, well read, and even when I didn’t agree with one of his positions, he had explained in depth and I understood and respected his opinion. He has already demonstrated that he is hard working and thorough when making decisions, and he can disagree with someone without disrespecting them. Ticked Off Danielle Smith wants Albertans not to have Canadian dental care. More cost for those who have no dental care. She isn’t helping Albertans by doing this. First time in years I could go to dentist as I cannot afford a private health-care plan. I am not understanding her logic. Ticked Off That people who say they support free speech are celebrating the fact Kimmel and Colbert are being silenced. Ticked Off The day my neighbour gets chickens is the day I get a big dog that likes to bark at chickens. Tickled Pink Watched both Yukon Showcase games and was thinking after, “Gavin who?” Tigers looking really good still. Tickled Pink Justin Wright’s point was proven correct in the TOTP comments. There is a well curve and those that do not agree with woke ideology, DEI and gender-affirming surgery for adolescent children are labelled extremists and far right. This is an attempt to indicate superiority and that other opinions are not worthy, thereby Justin Wright’s are not worthy. I would question who is creating the well curve and who is really the divisive person, I don’t think it is Justin Wright and I applaud him. Ticked Off At MLA Wright. You do realize the ‘mission’ you say you will be ‘carrying on’ from Kirk is: an all white male Christian country, women barred from military, women to marry, stay home and have babies, no LGBTQ+, no DEI, a revised Black history of the U.S. and more. You do realize all that, yes? You owe Albertans and Canadians an apology, please. Tickled Pink Excited for a new council, it’s time the HR department was audited. Let’s clear the air with citizens and staff that don’t have a voice. Ticked Off There needs to be limit how many year-one individuals sit on council. Ticked Off Can the UCP stop wasting tax money on stupid things? Why do they need to spend however much money on running ads to convince people “teachers make too much money.” Reminds me of the wasted money spent on advertising, “Alberta is calling.” This government is embarrassing. Ticked Off Chickens? Bylaw can’t even deal with complaints regarding problem properties with equipment on driveway permanently, let alone chickens. Ticked Off If the city spends any money for trails connecting Desert Blume. If you choose to live out there it’s not fair to citizens to help pay for this. You knew before you moved there it had no pathways. Don’t come crying now for a trail. Tickled Pink That there are candidates who recognize that promising tax freezes/cuts is not realistic because of the impact to city services. We need councillors with a realistic view of our finances and to act accordingly, not ones who make promises they can’t keep just to get elected. Ticked Off The UCP government’s decision to steal the federal disability benefit is really hurting families whose loved ones depend on AISH. Ticked Off So if the province can just use the notwithstanding clause to override the Charter whenever they want, what’s the point of having the Charter in the first place? And the even bigger question is, why is the province so intent on infringing upon the Charter rights of minorities? Tickled Pink With longtime News advertising staffer Marion. Always pleasant, helpful and often goes above and beyond. Ticked Off With members of the old boys club trying to stack the deck on council by running a slate of their chosen people so they can run their agenda of projects and policies through once they gain control. Ticked Off I’m not sure how anyone can call what was done to Division Ave S. as traffic calming. Everyone I know finds it irritating and frustrating, and if anything it has the opposite effect of being calming. Tickled Pink If people opened their eyes and realized not everybody on council was problematic. There are two councillors in particular who were excellent, and one of them is running again. She would bring integrity and experience to the table. Ticked Off With the HALO air ambulance safety fiasco. Join STARS air and see some improved proven emergency service – maybe some cost savings, too? Tickled Pink If Premier Smith stopped wasting time on all the nonsense few are interested in and got back to work trying to fix our health care and education systems, which is what she was elected to do. Tickled Pink Teachers definitely deserve a wage increase due to overcrowded classes, students with challenging needs and a curriculum that is very difficult to complete in the designated time frame. But it would be impossible to provide 3,000 teachers in three years. Therefore, they would all be tickled pink to have educational aides in every classroom, especially the primary grades. Ticked Off Not happy that the city is looking at the Southside Aquatics Centre, the Brier Run Sports Field and the Boundary Road trail extension; all which will require a significant tax increase. The only deserving sports facility is the Southside Aquatics Centre because the south of Medicine Hat has been ignored. Ticked Off Ted Clugston was sure opinionated about the mayor’s position whenever he was interviewed by CHAT-TV News (when they were on the air) but it seems he has tucked his tail between his legs and is running for a seat as a councillor. He can talk the talk but can’t walk the walk. Tickled Pink I happily agree with Drew Barnes that the city must start prioritizing needs over wants. Case in point – kilometres of trails are being ripped up in Crescent Heights to be replaced while some city streets would knock the suspension out of a lot of vehicles. Tickled Pink Exciting changes are ahead with a fresh slate of new councilors stepping forward. It’s encouraging to see a shift away from the old, “this is how it’s always been done” mindset – especially when those ways didn’t always align with proper municipal governance. A new chapter brings hope for more accountability and transparency. Ticked Off Now that we have so many running for city council and mayor, one question every one of them should be asked and answered: Do you support Alberta Separation from Canada? Just a simple Yes or No. Tickled Pink To see Mayor Clark is running for again. She may not be perfect but is far better than the others running. Most of what happened this past term was clearly not her fault, and it took focus away from running the city. Ticked Off All for another pool in MH, but unless that pool can be converted in future to an indoor pool, what’s the point of spending huge amounts of money on a pool that only will get used for four months a year. Tickled Pink Whoever put up the “Vote for Pedro” signs made my day. You are hilarious. It made me laugh out loud, especially thinking about the people who wouldn’t understand the joke. 67
