Ticked Off and Tickled Pink, Sept. 11, 2025

Ticked Off

Insurance companies are attempting to recoup moneys paid out for claims made. Tripling premiums is beyond my comprehension. Your methodology is questionable at best. How about building codes change to standardize exteriors on homes to be able to withstand hail, high winds etc? Shopping around is a necessity as many agents are really not working for you. Again it’s all about corporate greed.

Tickled Pink

The city flower baskets downtown have been beautiful all summer long. Also the city flowers throughout the city are also gorgeous. We’re so lucky. Thanks, City of Medicine Hat.

Ticked Off

At how contradictory some council candidates are. “Lower taxes, but better infrastructure and maintenance.” Or, “No more road narrowing, but safer streets and neighbourhoods.” Then people wonder why councils don’t get anything accomplished. Everyone has rose-coloured glasses, and no one actually has a firm stance on anything.

Tickled Pink

As I drive along Division Avenue S., I am amazed at how pretty it is. I also recognized that the paths are perfect for children and young adults who need to walk to school. It makes me feel like I am driving in a new city for the first time.

Ticked Off

So the Government of Alberta wants AISH recipients to apply for Canada Disability but they want more control over and want a separation referendum. I find that very interesting, shouldn’t the province be supporting more not less? Oh wait, they want all the Canadian benefits but still want to separate.

Ticked Off

Those who don’t agree with separation are like those people caught in an abusive relationship but won’t leave for all the same reasons. If you won’t research the Alberta Prosperity Project, then perhaps read the latest Maclean’s where they interview average Albertans about why they feel like they need to get out.

Tickled Pink

I think it’s cute that some of these people think Alberta will separate. It will never happen, unless of coarse there’s a proverbial gun to our heads. You can promise whatever you want in a desperate way, but it will never, never, never, happen.

Ticked Off

We need better mayoral candidates, and please, don’t vote for Barnes. It’d be a disaster for the city.

Ticked Off

There needs to some continuity between the current city council and the upcoming new council. If there are no other current city council members running, then that leaves a tough decision. (Editor’s note: Your wish has come true, as two incumbents have announced.)

Tickled Pink

Our city should be congratulating Jesse Florkowski, a local class A golf professional at Connaught Golf Course on being selected to the North American Team competing at the 1-Arm World Tournament in Ireland. He is the only one in Canada to be chosen for this special golf event. What a special honour and he deserves recognition.

Tickled Pink

That a new reporter has joined the team at Medicine Hat News. Welcome, Zoe! Your introductory article was excellent and showcased what an asset you’ll be to the local news landscape. What a resumé, too!

Ticked Off

Yes we have jails but do we need them? A Calgary city councillor whose vehicle was damaged twice by the same person has coined the phrase “Catch and Release.” Criminals are out on bail soon after their arrest to commit more crimes. The monetary cost (if any) must be set very low. (Editor’s note: Yeah, I don’t think they were the first to say that.)

Tickled Pink

Amid the region-wide, civic election lawn sign invasion we’re required to tolerate, it’s interesting to see how many current councillors are not represented. The clock’s ticking for them, isn’t it? Looks like the last day to submit nomination papers is Sept. 22. Stay tuned.

Ticked Off

After all their other failings, do you trust the UCP to run a dental care plan? I don’t trust them to run a lemonade stand.

Ticked Off

Hear crickets in the news so a reminder before it’s too late that; if wanting a flu or COVID vaccination to pre-order online by Sept 30. (Editor’s note: Not to be a stickler, but we’ve covered this pretty extensively actually. A reminder is always good though!)

Tickled Pink

With PorchFest musicians, organizers, hosts and volunteers! Disappointed in porch festers who talked through the entire hour of performances. Why attend if you have no intention of listening? Go to the back or go for coffee so we can enjoy the music please.
