Tickled Pink With Bruce Penton’s opinion piece from Aug. 27 with a mention of Bob McDonald’s perspective of having done some world travelling and how we live in extreme privilege here in Canada/Alberta/Medicine Hat. Something to remember as, ‘Do we really need to complain?’ Tickled Pink To see Stu Young, who worked in oil and gas, launch his campaign at the skateboard park. We need more youth engaged in our city. Tickled Pink Thank you to the many volunteers collecting signatures of Albertans wanting to remain as part of Canada. Premier Smith’s leadership is questionable at best. Ticked Off The mayoral candidates are not great. We need someone to connect with. Ticked Off Council hopefuls who want to lower municipal taxes but also eliminate off-site levies. Do they not understand that by eliminating those the city is on the hook for upfront costs for new developments? If the city has to pay, then that’s another expense that needs to be paid by taxes. You can’t have your cake and eat it, too. Tickled Pink Anyone opposed to the road narrowing projects we are seeing in the city should read the book “Killed by a Traffic Engineer.” Ticked Off The premier is looking to the U.S. and following their new policy regarding COVID vaccines and availability. Guess those meetings down south have helped her but not us. Ticked Off City councillors should punch the clock just like anybody else. Hours worked should be made public. Meetings should be during regular city work hours. If you have another job, then take the time off, you’re getting paid for it . Ticked Off Alberta is now on track for an even bigger budget deficit (expected to grow by $1.3B) because the government depends on oil instead of diversifying what Alberta depends on. Tickled Pink If Naheed Nenshi was our premier, he would not claw back the disability benefit. Good thing we have one good politician to vote for in the next election. Ticked Off So the homeless shelter will be in Brier Park? Far distant from any services. Is this about helping the homeless, or is it really about filling a vacant property and helping out the landlord? Just who owns the property? (Editor’s note: It is a city-owned property.) Ticked Off What a waist of our tax dollars to see city employees needlessly idling vehicles for sometimes hours on end, both summer and winter. Waste your own money if you like, but please not mine. Ticked Off With the culled process of selection to amplify Danielle Smith’s outrage at Alberta Next panels. When most people present in the room are separatist leaning or bigots, you need to expect them to cheer for separation and deportation. We are better than this government is trying to tell us that we are. Ticked Off That my child’s middle school has peeling paint, broken windows, missing floor tiles, an outdated ventilation system, etc., and this government wastes time and money banning books and fighting teachers. Their lack of priorities is astounding, and our kids are paying the price. This province is in big trouble. Tickled Pink I agree on the proposed new site for the homeless shelter. It’s a good decision for everyone. Ticked Off With the proposed new location for the Mustard Seed Shelter. I challenge any member of the Resiliency and Inclusion Task Force to walk from the shelter location to the Salvation Army for supper, (only Monday to Friday by the way), then walk back to the shelter. Better yet, do it when it’s plus or minus 30 degrees. Ticked Off You know what would have been a perfect location for a shelter? Right where the building you just tore down was. Close to resources for food, clothing, medical, social and emotional support. I’ve heard the rationale: the building was unsafe, planning a park, asbestos, blah, blah, blah. Let’s put the street folk miles away from everything, then we can blame them for not accessing a shelter. Ticked Off I think the UCP government now is the worst Alberta has ever had. They have not solved any of our problems. Nothing is better under this government. Please tell me how I am wrong. Tickled Pink I am satisfied with CPP, I am satisfied with RCMP. What is the problem? The problem is the UCP. Calm down and solve problems that need to be solved. Ticked Off The proposed location of the homeless shelter is a ridiculous idea. What is needed a central location, but as usual, no one wants “those people” in their neighbourhood. The Mustard Seed and the city need to rethink this idea. Ticked Off To err is human. Humans can be bribed. How is manual counting of ballots better? It is not. Computerized counted has been used for years and there is no evidence of any problems. More expensive, not as reliable or accurate. Just another example of UCP making unnecessary and backward changes. 43
