Ticked Off That Donald Trump sanctioned four judges who sit on International Criminal Court. Ticked Off With council members. They had no right to cut the mayor’s salary, and they all should reimburse her from their own pockets, not public coffers. Tickled Pink Thank you to the two young lady EMS who came to my rescue at the MHG&CC on Aug. 13. You were both amazing and so good at your job. Also, thank you to Cari and the staff at the golf course. All very helpful, as were the girls I was golfing with. Thank you all again. Tickled Pink I also would like to know if council candidates are separatists because it would sway my vote toward them, but seriously, what does that have to do with running our city council? Sounds like you are losing the big picture with pettiness and could impair some really good candidates. (Editor’s note: So, you’re saying that do want to know, but also that wanting to know is petty.) Ticked Off Good decision by council on Linnsie Clark’s legal fees. She did not incur them on behalf of the citizens in her role as mayor, rather they were about her employment conditions. Definitely should not be paid by taxpayers. Why she didn’t quit is beyond me. But, at least she’ll be gone in a few more weeks. Actually, hopefully the majority of this ineffective council will be gone. Tickled Pink Our neighbourhood just had a block party. It was great, the organizers kept it simple – hot dogs and stuff. They brought in a food truck for drinks, a great idea. It was super nice to have neighbours you wave at in winter or say “hi” to on your way to the mailbox all gathered in one place to chat. And thank you to the city for the “micro grant.” What a lot of happy a couple of hundred dollars generated. Ticked Off Cougar in the middle of the city! Grrr. Spotted, 1:30 a.m. on SE Hill. Came out of environmental reserve the end of 12th Street SE. Ticked Off Why is the province charging for COVID shots this year? B.C., Sask., Manitoba and Ontario are free to everyone who wants them, everyone who holds a valid health care card for their province. Our premier needs to change her mind, and fast. Ridiculous. Ticked Off That you people complain about paying for a COVID shot and yet you gladly pay for your travel shots when you go out of the country. Where is your rational thinking people? (Editor’s note: Probably that health care needs at home are a right, while those for travelling to other countries are not.) Tickled Pink With the News election coverage despite being short on staff. The interviews. The tables and lists. All very helpful in keeping track of who is who. Hopefully it will help voters do a much better job than we did last election. Whew, what a dysfunctional council. Tickled Pink I’m confused. At this point are we still supposed to have our “elbows up”? T-shirts aren’t aging well. Ticked Off With our premier who continues to insist on the money wasted on unused COVID vaccines. The latest claim being $284M over the past three years. It is seldom mentioned this was federal money and not provincial dollars. Premier Danielle Smith neglects to explain how advertising for the vaccine was limited and negatively viewed by our province. Many of her supporters wouldn’t stand for science over fiction. Tickled Pink That Deerview Meats supports local broadcasting by providing their products (sausages/steaks) in a contest, Turn Up the Heat. Thank you! Tickled Pink The old-boy mindset needs to be replaced with a younger vibe. With the amount of money paying council it would be a great full-time position for folks especially as they get pension and benefits for themselves and family on top. (Editor’s note: At full time, the councillor salary of $45,476 is $21.86 an hour. Is that a “great full-time position” for people who answer to 68,000 residents?) Tickled Pink With the News for its road conditions reporting. I’m happy to change routes to avoid milled roads and fresh tar. Unfortunately the crews often won’t walk back to an intersection ahead of the work. They put up sign in front off work with no chance of detour. So I rely on the News reports for roadwork. Thank you. Ticked Off That the province is asking citizens who don’t qualify to pay for the new COVID vaccine. The only province in Canada. Tickled Pink That the south side may finally get some rec facilities. I’m in full support of the proposed aquatics centre. I’m also opposed to the proposed sports fields in Brier Run. The north side, with only 25 per cent of the population, has an overwhelming disproportionate share of rec facilities. I think any new rec facilities should be built south of the highway, which has none. Ticked Off I think if council is going to change the council meeting time it should be done by the new council, as the current time may suit most of them better. If it doesn’t they are free to change the time that suits them better. Ticked Off If Alberta separates, will we need to create our own military, or will we rely on Canada to protect us from Canada? Or will we rely on some other military power? Ticked Off With all the talk of Alberta separation, I’m constantly amazed at the number of people who seem to think they need a government to take care of them. Maybe it’s just a vocal minority who write in to this paper constantly complaining about everything. Tickled Pink Proud that Carney is standing up to Trump and not bowing to his bullying. Waiting out the tyrant is the best idea. We are not a weak country! 43
How can anyone think that asking a candidate that is running for city council, where they stand on something as important as Alberta potentially separating from Canada, is being petty? No matter how you personally feel about separation, this is a very important question and one worth asking.
