Ticked Off and Tickled Pink, Feb. 6, 2025

By Ticked Off - Tickled Pink on February 6, 2025.

Ticked Off

That there are people homeless and hungry in the world, Travis Kelce is dishing out $3 million to book a luxury suite so Taylor Swift can be present at the Super Bowl. This is our world. Keep supporting the celebrities.

Ticked Off

Amazing. The armed forces cry for years for new equipment and are constantly turned down. Donald Trump says he wants better borders and the government gets numerous helicopters within a week. Shows who is more important in this country.

Ticked Off

That now not only should we Canadians try to read labels and shop Canadian, it isn’t hard at all not to travel into the U.S. If we don’t support our Canada, who will? And next is dairy, cars and then… water. That ‘elephant’ is now rolling onto us. Support Canadian!

Tickled Pink

With Brett McKay’s article in the Jan. 31, 2025 edition of the Medicine Hat News with regards to the UCP ties to the coal lobbyists. Truly an eye opener. A must read.

Ticked Off

Now that Donald Trump has economically attacked Canada with a trade war, it’s time for all Canadians to support Canada and refuse to deal with the tyranny of MAGA. If we don’t stand up to him, we are not a independent country. Support Canada, or roll up in a ball.

Tickled Pink

The South Saskatchewan River and all the creatures that live in it would be if the readers of this newspaper exercised their democratic right today – to contact MLA Justin Wright or MLA Danielle Smith and let them know we don’t want coal mining on the Eastern Slopes.

Ticked Off

If President Felon hadn’t cut taxes to the rich in his first administration, the U.S. wouldn’t have so much debt. Canada isn’t the problem. Rich Americans not paying taxes are.

Tickled Pink

Let’s all continue to be happy we live in a beautiful country, and this year travel within instead of heading over to the U.S. Let’s support our own citizens and economy -buy local, buy Canadian and source everything we possibly can from Canadian owned businesses and nonprofit charity shops.

Tickled Pink

My children and grandchildren are simply wonderful, they call often – not text, actually call – visit sometimes just for minutes and invite us to ice cream dates (on summer evenings) after school or work. We read the local news, of course, so we can debate about this and that. They’ll meet us at Kin Coulee for a walk and a talk, coffee in hands. I hope all parents and grandparents have such wonderful people, too.

Ticked Off

That there are people complaining about the housing crisis while at the same time own rental units, AirBnBs, “flip” houses, or otherwise treat homes as investments instead of the basic human resource that they are – shelter. We need legislation in place to limit the number of properties a person can own. If you are a landlord, you are part of the problem.

Ticked Off

Three Alberta cabinet ministers are heading to the U.S. to (literally) pray, while others are continuing the charm offensive to promote energy, hunting and more.

Ticked Off

If fentanyl dealers large or small get caught, they should go to jail for 10 or more years, not a slap on the wrist. The laws need to change to discourage this behaviour.

Ticked Off

At people who complain about misinformation, then complain more about a photo of Danielle Smith (Jan. 28) that shows what she really looks like sometimes.

Tickled Pink

I will be if Danielle Smith does something to help the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede. It would be a boost for the local economy. As our MLA she should be advocating for us. Seems she’s forgotten.

Ticked Off

Police in Courtenay, B.C. issued 100 tickets for improper snow clearing of vehicles this week. They could get that many from vehicles exiting my condo parking lot alone.

Ticked Off

Why did Premier Smith cut eye exams for kids and seniors, and then cut money for the disabled? Nothing but a big bully targeting those who need that meager support and are unable to retaliate.

Ticked Off

That the editor will not publish comments negative to alternative energy sources.

Tickled Pink

What Pierre Poilievre says about what needs to be done to have Canada move ahead is so true. It makes 100 times more sense than what our current federal government has been doing.

Ticked Off

The Stampede should build a new grandstand that the Stampede and the city can afford. The proposed project is a pipe dream that is unaffordable and will end up in the city’s lap. Lethbridge is a prime example of over spending on a project.

Tickled Pink

With the person saying “Trudeau has zero qualifications to be PM.” Alright, so by that logic you definitely won’t be voting for Pierre Poilievre then. Carney is way, way (emphasis on the “way”) more qualified to be PM than Poilievre. It’s not even close. Poilievre is grifter. Carney is an international economic expert.

Ticked Off

The province funds initiatives to keep seniors in their homes (and out of seniors facilities) and, at the same time, cuts support for seniors vision care because vision has no bearing on your ability to remain independent. What? Why do health-care costs keep rising? Why is the system so broken? Years of politicians making counterproductive, and, frankly, just dumb interventions like this.

Ticked Off

So city council is looking at giving a $20-million grant to the Medicine Hat Stampede for expansion and renovations, and they cancel the permit for the Mustard Seed. If the city has $20 million to give away, why isn’t the city doing something about our homeless population, which is going to worse?

Tickled Pink

That the city is approved to buy the solar project. A smart move for our future.

Tickled Pink

I am tickled pink that my tickled pink is in the tickled pink section.

Ticked Off

At the person “embarrassed that there are so many far left-reaching…” No, most Canadians are not right of centre, and the current “conservative” government in this province is definitely extremist, and radicalized to a scary extent. Don’t let the echo chamber of small-town Alberta fool you. People don’t, “Want so much given to them for nothing,” people want to be treated fairly, and with respect, and in Canada we asked to have a public safety net to depend on, which is our right.

Ticked Off

I’m all in favour of modernizing the Stampede grandstands, but let’s not use reserve funds to pay for it. It should be funded, like the Cypress Foundation, by a yearly line item on property taxes. Once the yearly total is determined we could have a referendum on it. It’s too easy to think of reserve funds as free money, if the grandstand is a good thing, it should be supported by rate payers.

Ticked Off

MHURA statement that renewable energy does not generate money is simply false, and calling renewable energy production “unstable” is just laughable. What is more stable than the sun rising and setting every day? What’s actually unstable is relying on limited, nonrenewable resources for our energy, and dumping tonnes and tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Ticked Off

Forcing people with disabilities to be assessed for employment, and taking away their full supports if they are deemed “suitable for work” based on some arbitrary assessment is not “empowering” anybody. It’s cruel, and the provincial government should be ashamed of themselves.

Ticked Off

Albertans don’t need tax cuts. We need our health care, education and roads looked after better.

Ticked Off

To the surprise of no one, Take Back Alberta, a borderline white supremacist hate group that fully backed Danielle Smith as the leader of the UCP, has recently been fined over $100,000 by Elections Alberta, including fines for accepting contributions from outside of the country. If you love Canada, if you love Alberta, then Danielle Smith is not your friend.

Tickled Pink

Thank you farmers and ranchers for feeding us. You are the most important people in the world. Next to you, everyone else is insignificant – doctors, politicians, teachers, lawyers etc.

Tickled Pink

That we have Danielle Smith and Mr. Trump working on securing our borders and stopping the drugs. Who wouldn’t want that? Time for a federal election.

Ticked Off

From reading various news articles and viewing broadcasts concerning the MH Stampede board request for funding from the city, there appears to be an expectation that the city dare not refuse to provide the funds, or else. The ask for funding is way over the top and they need to scale back their expectations.
