Ticked Off and Tickled Pink, Sept. 19, 2024

Ticked Off

To read in the Calgary Herald that a new Bill of Rights concocted here in the Hat was endorsed verbatim by the UCP Party board for members to consider at their November gathering. It includes, amongst particularly disturbing “rights”, the “freedom to keep and bear arms, including ownership and use of fire arms” and raises the possibility of no limitations on ownership and use of firearms. Do these people want us to become worse than Americans with their gun-crazy culture? This is only one of their disturbing proposals.

Tickled Pink

That as a retired executive from Air Canada, my free flights anywhere in the world, and partner, will not be halted given the settlement by the pilots and the company.

Tickled Pink

I don’t trust city management with my money, won’t be using incentive. If and when, I will go to my trusted financial institution. They’re in the business of finances.

Tickled Pink

It was mentioned in Around Town that there are no coffee shops on the busy Highway 3 out of town. Not true! Homestead Market has excellent coffee, both walk-in and drive-thru, and breakfast treats, just before you leave town.

Ticked Off

What is council and administration doing if we have so much on the agenda for Monday they might have to extend. Why was the council meeting cancelled a few weeks back when they had nothing to discuss?

Ticked Off

That with all the money put into cancer research they have not come any closer to finding any information, much less a cure. Someone should investigate where all that money is going.

Ticked Off

Most government offices and private businesses have a recorded spiel that harassment and abusive language will not be tolerated. Yet I am often spoken to sharply and rudely by these places. Shouldn’t it work both ways?

Tickled Pink

With the delightful articles in MHN regarding the early history of Medicine Hat. I especially enjoyed the story about the beginning of Rotary Park. These stories are such a nice change from the very depressing news stories of the day. A little lightness in a sad world. Keep them coming

Ticked Off

I guess you better move back to Ontario if you don’t like the “small town hicks.”

Ticked Off

How do you get more back in carbon tax than you spend? You must not be a very productive member of our community. (Editor’s note: It’s clearly not a very celebrated fact here and people are allowed to like or dislike any tax, but most people get more money back. That’s just reality.)

Tickled Pink

That city council will now have a “integrity commissioner.” Now none of you can weasel and talk your way out of inappropriate behaviour.

Ticked Off

BB pellet injuries most commonly affect young males and can cause significant ocular injuries leading to profound permanent and temporary visual loss as a result of globe rupture, optic neuropathy, chorioretinitis sclopetaria, detached retina, vitreous hemorrhage and/or hyphema.

Ticked Off

People should start looking into our education system. Students with behaviour issues are growing in all school districts and are consuming all the learning assistant and teacher time. Students at grade level and with learning disabilities as a result are not getting the care they deserve. More money needs to be put toward classroom support.

Ticked Off

That mainstream media CTV Calgary and Lethbridge can report about the city manager removal petition. Local mainstream media in Medicine Hat are silent, all we hear is crickets. There are two sides to every story. (Editor’s note: You’re right, there are. And our side is that this so-called petition is on change.org, which means less than nothing, has been out for a lot longer than seemingly assumed by CTV, has fewer than half the overwhelmingly small number of people who signed the recall petition for Mayor Clark and, last but not least, the person who started this city manager petition moved to Drumheller. There, covered it.)

Tickled Pink

That we have so many “experts” at city hall that world peace, world hunger, climate change and narcissism should all be solved soon.

Tickled Pink

To know how a former president can bankrupt six businesses. One was a casino!?

Ticked Off

Still waiting for the mayor to apologize to me and other tax payers of this community. The city manager got hers, why not us?

Tickled Pink

If someone could get it through to the Opposition leader that carbon tax has nothing or very little to do with inflation. Less than .02%. Many rely on that deposit, such as this family.

Ticked Off

Why does the mayor constantly nitpick city employees during open council meetings? If you do not understand policy, maybe being the mayor isn’t the role for you. Time to look in the mirror.
