Ticked Off and Tickled Pink, July 23, 2024

Ticked Off

With the columnist who sneered at the Calgary Stampede logo. If he did some research he’d find out it’s a cattle brand which the Stampede has used for decades.

Ticked Off

Why can’t anything be done to 342 Fourth St. SE and the adjoining lot? It’s an absolute mess. The weeds are almost three feet high, and at the rear of the property is a horrible sight.

Ticked Off

The city is removing flower beds from intersections. Medicine Hat won the Communities in Bloom national competition in the past because of the flowers and hanging baskets downtown. Too much work and too much watering now, I guess.

Ticked Off

At all the businesses allowing dogs inside. What’s this world coming to that dogs come before the welfare of the customer? They are not children so should be kept at home. All it will take is one bad incident and being sued till it will be stopped.

Ticked Off

After the terrible ‘interview’ the mayor did with a Facebook group this week, this is the reason she needs to resign. Terrible her behaviour and not thinking about this community. Terrible to staff and administration what she did. Putting her ego first. Releasing closed council information. Time for her to go. She’s tearing the community apart.

Ticked Off

Some employers’ expectations of employees volunteering their time during work hours for meetings is bogus. My time is worth something, don’t you think? And those of you who do it for nothing, that’s your choice, but big corporations certainly can afford to pay.

Tickled Pink

Danielle Smith is awesome. Thanks to her I actually think Alberta will be OK. Finally a politician with some toughness.

Ticked Off

Medicine Hat city provides bicycle lanes on College Drive while teenagers, adults and professional looking cyclists continue to ride on the sidewalk. Go figure.

Tickled Pink

Medicine Hat does not have a safe consumption site, but no one has ever died inside one in Canada, ever. Not only that, but overdose deaths drop dramatically in neighbourhoods where SCSs exist. Safe consumption is healthcare, and we need at least one immediately.

Ticked Off

At the lack of any official action to get rid of the traffic light on the top of the hill going east after crossing the bridge on the Trans-Canada Highway.

Tickled Pink

If the real “common sense” party please take a bow. Conservative Party of Canada spent over $8.5 million on advertising in 2023. The Liberals spent around $381,000. NDP spent about $42,000. Big spenders will cut our badly needed services if voted in.

Ticked Off

People in Medicine Hat don’t understand there isn’t enough infrastructure to host the Memorial Cup. By the time teams, owners, media, scouts and players’ family get all their tickets and hotel rooms, there will be bare bone tickets/hotels for fans.

Ticked Off

We have Canadian premiers sticking their noses where they don’t belong within the federal government. Take your own advice and “stay in your lane.”

Ticked Off

Who is responsible for overhanging tree branches onto a street? There are some branches that nearly touch the roof of my car near the Stampede grounds, which I do avoid.

Tickled Pink

Watched online interview with mayor of Medicine Hat. Brings to light that the mayor is not the problem in city hall.

Tickled Pink

To reside in a wonderful community like Redcliff. My heartfelt thanks to the hardworking employees and elected officials who got us through the last few days as painless as possible. As you all know by now, Redcliff had some unforeseen issues at the Water Treatment Plant. It could have been far worse. Thank you also for doing so much to organize recent celebrations that we enjoyed so much. Redcliff Days and July street events. Town of Redcliff, you are wonderful.

Ticked Off

To the person who said Altawana shouldn’t have taken this long but it did because it’s “all about money” – you have it backwards. City projects have site occupancy, which means the construction company has to pay for every day they are on site. They make the most money the faster they get the project done.

Tickled Pink

On July 15 my elderly mother was at a crosswalk on 13th Avenue SE across from the Co-op mall, when she fell. Three people exited their vehicle to go check on her to made sure she was OK. Other than bruising and soreness, she will be fine. We are grateful for your kindness and thank you very much!

Tickled Pink

A huge thank you to the traffic control flagging staff who worked the Parkview Drive-12th Street NE intersection during the Altawana closure. You guys made the traffic flow smoothly even during the peak commute times, usually with a smile and pleasant wave as well. You were indeed appreciated by all.

Ticked Off

Saw Glen Motz on a TV interview wearing pink shorts that looked like boxer shorts. Not very classy. He continues to be very unimpressive.

Tickled Pink

That the new Alberta NDP leader, with an abysmal track record as the Calgary mayor, continues to embarrass himself every time he opens his mouth. I’d renew my subscription to the News if I could be entirely convinced my contribution isn’t really just part of its Alberta NDP fundraiser. (Editor’s note: We’d be happy to continue this relationship as well but we can’t do much about people’s need to invent conspiracy theories over very silly things, so we’re gonna have to agree to meet each other halfway on this one.)

Tickled Pink

Read about the new solar field going in northwest to northeast. I hope this helps Medicine Hat grow. City has been stagnant far too long.

Tickled Pink

Love the gym in Riverside. Fantastic they offer child minding in the morning without added costs. Great fitness instructors that kick my butt every time.

Tickled Pink

Great clothing stores on Third Street, lots of variety and sizes. I always check sale racks as you can get some great deals.

Tickled Pink

The Esplanade is for everyone, correct. Well, let’s see those facilities open up to help the homeless folks cool down this summer. It’s empty most of the time, the washroom is already there and water can be provided by the non-profits.

Ticked Off

That Hollywood can’t leave old movies alone, and have to remake them – poorly. Can’t you use your own new ideas, instead of ruining a classic movie? Thank goodness I don’t go to the mall theatre anymore. To pay that much to see junk isn’t worth it.

Tickled Pink

I’m very pleased with the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede Visual Arts Show & Sale and how great it looks this year thanks to the many, many volunteer hours already put into the show. It takes place in the Fireside Room from noon until 8 p.m. daily during the Stampede.
