Ticked Off and Tickled Pink, Jan. 4, 2024

Ticked Off

I am fed up with neighbours shooting off fireworks all the time. Even after the people are reminded that a permit is required for fireworks. This city needs a bylaw (if there isn’t one already) that can and will be enforced. I don’t want my house, the nearby school or other homes near it going up in flames.

Tickled Pink

That there were so many licences granted for fireworks on Dec. 31st! LMAO.

Ticked Off

Tried calling 811 for medical advice before calling the ambulance for a sick family member. After going through all the preliminaries and pushing many buttons, I was advised my call was important but I was the 80th person in the queue waiting to speak to an RN for assistance. Tell me, how can this be a helpful resource if you have to wait for 1-2 hours to receive advice when someone is ill enough that you are requesting guidance?

Tickled Pink

For the new year 2024! Let us be kinder, more understanding, loving, have more patience, giving and forgiving. Life is too short, people.

Ticked Off

A lot of conservatives think that governments shouldn’t “spend, spend, spend.” That is what governments do. They spend on health care, infrastructure, policing, roads and many other things to make citizens’ lives better. Has our current government been working at making our lives better? Lately I think they have been neglecting their mission.

Tickled Pink

Thank you to the lady who paid for part of my purchase at Walmart on Dec. 30. Was a nice surprise and thoughtful gesture this time of year. We need more thoughtful people like you. Have a great New Year.

Ticked Off

With the studio experts during the World Junior Hockey Championship tournament. These “experts” can tell what’s wrong from far away, but none of them have ever coached. Easy to tell people how to fix something from the studio.

Tickled Pink

With my wonderful wife! I don’t know what I did to deserve her, but I’m glad I found her. She’s cute, smart, and runs a tight ship. I’d be lost without her!

Tickled Pink

So happy with the “Fair Entry Program” the City of Medicine Hat has expanded. It has made such a positive impact for so many people.

Tickled Pink

Ticked off by the almost four-hour wait at the emergency department at the hospital, but tickled pink by the wonderful care received after finally getting being seen by the doctor. The nurses and doctors we dealt with her very caring, professional and took the time to explain everything and answer our questions. Sadly they seem very overworked and under staffed.

Ticked Off

At people who cant shovel their driveways. Looks like it’s that time to move out? Sitting in the front window waiting for others to do it for you won’t do anything for you. Or hire someone to do it? Too cheap maybe?

Ticked Off

At the senior who’s calling Medicine Hat a sonic hell. I am now convinced you must live near a highway or some place where it is ingested. There is no way you can ever call this city a sonic hell. I feel sorry for you. I suggest you move. (Editor’s note: We really hope you meant to write ‘congested.’)

Tickled Pink

That Alberta’s credit rating has been upgraded, but it has nothing to do with our current spend, spend, spend government, just as the downgrade in 2020 had anything to do with Jason Kenney’s government. Oil prices have created a surplus and that means we can more easily pay our debts. Why isn’t our credit rating at the very top? Our government must be failing us!

Tickled Pink

We have the best MLAs ever. One doesn’t live here and the other is on a never-ending learning curve. The forgotten corner of Alberta will continue to be forgotten. This is all to our benefit. We just need to be left alone.

Tickled Pink

Trudeau has never lied to Canadians. There has never been any incidence of that happening. Why do people think that? (Editor’s note: ‘Never’ seems a little exaggerated in this instance, wouldn’t you say?)

Tickled Pink

Danielle Smith went to Dubai to stick up for Alberta interests. Health care, education, homelessness, opioid addiction, high cost of food, etc. – All the things that have nothing to do with those things that should concern her, but she thinks are part of her separatist ideas.

Ticked Off

The Tigers will show up to date NHL scores on the big Jumbo-tron but wont post the PWHL scores. Like, be better. I also am aghast they don’t post the Friday afternoon elite-men’s game scores each game night. C’mon, lets be inclusive already!

Ticked Off

For my first 2024 TO/TP submission I wish the UCP would finally confirm that there will be no more coal mining in Alberta which populates our water supplies. Especially since water is a scarce resource.

Ticked Off

Canada to open border to up to 1,000 immigrants from a country in crisis with family backing. Yaa. That will do.

Ticked Off

Medicine Hat should be ashamed that the city does not have a 24-hour shelter. Imagine if you had a home but the kitchen and the bedroom were miles apart, half your home was closed on the weekends and you were locked out of both locations for random, minor infractions. That is the situation at the current “shelter.”

Tickled Pink

It would be great if the Medicine Hat Police Service and Bylaw would enforce that College Drive is not a truck or dangerous goods route. Perhaps better signage would help.

Ticked Off

Canadian consumer debt is $2.4 trillion, on which is paid a minimum 8% interest or about $192 billion in interest. Canadian government debt is $1.2 trillion, on which is paid a maximum of 6% interest or about $72 billion in interest. Folks scream about government debt, about which they can do little, when they should worry about their own, about which they can do a great deal. Let he who is without debt cast the first stone.

Ticked Off

You want to expand Medicine Hat? You think there’s a lot of idiot drivers here now? Just think if we had 100K more people. And the police would still not care.

Ticked Off

City finally gives us some utility relief on kilowatts and gigs, then they up the service fees. How is that helping your citizens of Medicine Hat? So any relief you gave the citizens are now gone. (Editor’s note: Obviously, any increase is an increase worth talking about, but it should at least be mentioned that the average home will go up $11 a month in 2024, while the utility relief – $800 total per residence – was equal to about $67 a month stretched over a year. That being said, paying more for anything right now isn’t fun.)
