Are you a long-term employee within your organization? Does that even exist anymore? I am feeling a bit sad but also excited as I share this. After consideration, I have made the decision to leave an organization after working there for 20 years. It is a decision I took seriously, and the decision was mine and mine alone to make. So, why now? Well, I have accepted a full-time position within an organization that is offering and will continue to offer amazing programs for the citizens of Medicine Hat and surrounding communities. That to me speaks volumes. We know our community, like those all around us, is suffering. Kids are struggling with mental health issues, young people are unsure of what they want to do for work or even how to find work, adults are trying to figure out life, people of all ages are experiencing health related issues – and the list goes on. I have said it before, and will say it again; I am the voice that vulnerable people (and animals) of all ages need to help them in these challenging times. All I have ever really wanted was a full-time job that would allow me to do the work that needs to be done. I have now found it. At the organization I spent 20 years with, only nine of those were full-time. I had been trying to get full-time work but kept getting denied. Though angry at the time, I now understand things happen for a reason. To the majority of people I have met over those 20 years, thank you for your kindness and support. Many of you are friends and will continue to be so. As for the students, I hope I have had a positive impact on your career choices. I may not remember your name, but I remember faces. If you see me out in the community, please stop me and chat. I would love to hear where life has taken you. Alexander Graham Bell said, “When one door closes, another door opens.” I am here to tell you it is true. If you are unsuccessful in an interview or even get an interview for a job you feel you would be perfect at, rest assured, your dream job is waiting for you. I promise you!
