MP Report: Moving forward with purpose

By Glen Motz on May 28, 2025.

A sincere thank-you to the residents of the Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner constituency for once again placing your trust in me to represent your interests in Canada’s Parliament. Being elected your Member of Parliament for a fourth term is an incredible honour and privilege.

Although the 2025 federal election national result was not what Conservatives had envisioned, there are several successes worth highlighting. Slightly more than 8 million Canadians voted in favour of our common-sense vision, which addressed solutions to lowering taxes, high inflation, government debt, building the economy, affordable housing, immigration control and safer streets.

We garnered 41.3 per cent of the vote share, up from 33.74 per cent in the 2021 election, the highest for our party since 1988. Conservatives gained 24 seats by flipping Liberal strongholds in several Toronto-area ridings, making significant in-roads in British Columbia and adding others from across the country, which brings the Conservative MP count to 144 from the previous 119.

Our hopeful vision resonated with people from all walks of life. From young people, many who were first-time voters; from the middle-class; from blue-collar workers; and from labour union members, who gave Conservatives a historic endorsement.

However, as Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre stated post-election, “We are cognizant we didn’t get over the finish line. We all know change – even when it is desperately needed – is hard to come by. It takes time and continued effort.”

Poilievre humbly added, “It means when you get knocked down, you get back up and keep going by learning the lessons of what went wrong, so we have better results the next time Canadians go the polls to decide the future direction of our country.”

As the Official Opposition, Conservatives have a constitutional duty of holding the government accountable and we will do our job. We are ready to work with the government when they are right, but when we believe they are wrong, we will oppose them. We will propose better alternatives to government policies that do not benefit Canadians, because Conservatives want Canada to succeed, and are committed to restoring our country’s promise.

To achieve that goal, there needs to be a change in Liberal government policies, which handcuffed Canada’s prosperity over the last decade. Canada cannot continue under these same guiding principles that prevented our young people from accessing home ownership, drove up the cost of food and caused crime rates to increase.

During the election campaign, Mr. Carney talked a good game about reversing Liberal policies in these areas. In fact, he had a habit of stealing our common-sense Conservative policies and we encourage him to continue doing so. Canadians deserve legislation that will bring home the promise of Canada, the promise that everyone who works hard will receive a good pay cheque; abundant, affordable energy; home ownership; lower taxes; safe streets; and a strong military in the country that we know and love.
